A Craftsman masterpiece, this rambling bungalow boasts spacious chambers and original architectural details. Added to the grand space is oodles of old-house character such as a beautiful multi-light entryway, gorgeous restored tiger oak mantels, original clawfoot tub, fancy casement windows with original hardware, and paneled built-in bays with window seats.
We were hired to refurbish the home by restoring the old architectural details and creating custom luxury touches such as floating marble sinks, radiant heated bath floors, custom kitchen cabinets topped with sensuous soapstone and marble. We also added architectural gems such as striking red & gold stained glass pocket doors, a lovely pine medicine cabinet, stone finishes, and a reclaimed oak colonnade with wavy glass doors.
We began this restoration with intensive structural work – rebuilding much of the home where termites and water damage ate away at the bones of the house. We replaced many floor joists and beams, supported the floors with new piers, re-supported the roof, added engineered LVL beams, re-pointed the foundation, and created a much tighter, stronger skeleton. We insulated the entire exterior, roofed the house with 30-year architectural shingles and stripped the paint off of the original granite foundation. Finally, we turned our attention to the aesthetics and details and created a gorgeous house steeped in luxury and old world warmth.

The home is perched high on a bluff, boasting an elevated granite foundation, double-gabled roofline with custom stained glass...
...sidelights, transom, and casement windows, and a large deep porch. A reclaimed and restored heart of pine Craftsman door welcome visitors into the living room.
Typical of the rest of the house, the living room is generously proportioned and overflowing with rich architectural accents, some original & restored and some added during restoration. A triple set of multi-light casement windows still boast their original hardware rods and restored latches. Unfortunately, at some point in the house's history, most of the original windows were replaced with plastic windows.
To give the windows an air of historic authenticity, we replaced all of the modern windows with historic reproduction Loewen solid fir windows with bronze hardware. The grand tiger oak living room mantel has been refinished and the fireplace tiled with limestone cut to historic dimensions.
New, custom fabricated crown molding was created in a mission style out of heart pine beams (the brackets on this molding echo the brackets on the original mantels found in the home). Refurbished antique chandeliers were used throughout the home, including the living room.
Stunning stained glass pocket doors have been installed to segue into the dining room after demolition of the walls revealed an original pocket door cavity.

he mantel and tile in this room were restored and stripped of their paint-this is a gorgeous mantel with beautiful tiger oak, round columns, and Craftsman details. Also original to this room is the built-in window seat and bay.

Originally, the kitchen was located on the opposite side of the hallway, and we moved it behind the dining room to improve the flow.
This yin and yang kitchen features carpenter-built Craftsman cabinets with flush inset doors, chamfered feet and glass doors.
The main cabinetry is white, and is topped with sumptuous soapstone, while the island is complementary - painted black, and topped with white Carrera marble. White subway tile backsplash and glass knobs further add a historic touch. This celebratory space is painted a vivid orange, which matches the owner's fiesta-ware.
Details such as a large wine rack, wine chiller, bar sink, and crown molding with small carved brackets really make this a special kitchen.
This is a large, bright bedroom with huge custom windows.
One of four grand tiger oak mantels has been meticulously restored, as well as the fireplace tile and pad which were rebuilt after the old pad crumbled. All doors in this house have been stripped down to the heart of pine wood, sanded and shellacked. Since the house was missing many of its original doors, we brought in many antique six panel doors and refinished them. The door hardware is all egg & dart style and was collected during the project so that all the doors would have the same style.
